They got their title shot in 2012 as an Indy..
and I would argue that their odds of a playoff berth have doubled since then.
I do not think joining the ACC increases the Irish's odds of a berth at all.
For example, take a look at their 2016 schedule - it's a thing of beauty:
- THREE true away games. Neutrals should be winnable.
- tough games nicely distributed among easy games
ACC membership means - given Notre Dame's propensity for marquee games - 5-6 away games every year, plus 1-2 neutral site.
Tell a coach he only has to play three away games per year and ask him about his odds of winning it all. Plus they can drop the neutral games (realistically not Navy) at any time.
Guaranteed $, marquee matchups for the fans, and unequaled scheduling freedom - why would they give that up?
